Canadian Welding Bureau (CWB) Testing CenterThe Canadian Welding Bureau (CWB) serves as the national certifying body for structural welders across Canada. CWB certification aligns with the Canadian Standards Association (CSA) W47.1 / W47.2 and is required for welders working on steel structures, buildings, bridges, and other infrastructure projects in various industries such as construction, fabrication and heavy equipment.
Important Note
Welders must bring and wear their own personal protective equipment (PPE), including safety boots/shoes (steel-toe), welding helmet, welding gloves, safety glasses, and protective clothing. Additionally, welders must provide their own required tools. (I.e. chipping hammer, wire brush, wire wheel grinder, etc.).

Each welding process and position requires a separate test. Welders must successfully pass each position—flat, horizontal, vertical, and overhead—
in succession for their certification to be valid. A successful CWB Welder Qualification Record is valid for two years.

As an accredited CWB and TSSA test centre, the Institute of Technical Trades (ITT) offers CWB testing to students.
Our programs integrate CWB qualification tests into the practical training curriculum to equip students with essential welding skills and expertise, and ensure compliance with national and provincial safety and quality standards.
Earning qualifications from the CWB validates a student’s skills and expertise, opening doors to new opportunities and enabling them to excel in demanding and regulated structural industries such as construction and manufacturing.

These qualifications are widely recognized in key sectors such as construction and manufacturing making certified welders more employable and competitive.
Many welding jobs, especially those involving structural steel require welders to hold CWB qualification, ensuring that workers adhere to provincial and national safety codes.
Training programs that include these qualifications equip students with the credentials needed to take on more specialized and higher-paying roles.
Incorporating these tests into training provides practical, real-world experience with the types of projects and standards welders will encounter in their careers.
Note: CWB testing is available to non-students with advance booking.
