What welding tests are available at ITT?
ITT provides access to a range of welding testing opportunities, including CWB certfication testing, TSSA certification testing, and Skilled Trades Ontario Red Seal Practical Tests.
Does ITT offer CWB testing in Toronto?
Yes. ITT provides CWB certification testing in Toronto at its welding facility located at 1320 Ellesmere Road, Scarborough, Ontario. (The closest major intersection is Ellesmere and Brimley.)
What is CWB certification testing?
CWB certification testing evaluates a welder’s ability to produce welds that meet the requirements of the applicable Canadian Standards Association (CSA) standard, welding process, and position. The Canadian Welding Bureau (CWB) is Canada’s national certifying body for structural welders, with certification aligned with CSA W47.1 and W47.2. CWB certification is an important qualification for welders working in construction, fabrication, heavy equipment, and structural applications.
What is TSSA welding testing?
TSSA certification testing evaluates a welder’s ability to produce welds that meet the requirements of the applicable codes, standards, welding procedure, and qualification requirements. The Technical Standards and Safety Authority (TSSA) regulates the qualification of welders working on boilers, pressure vessels, pressure piping, and fittings in Ontario. TSSA welder qualifications are based on ASME Section IX requirements and are used for regulated pressure equipment and related work.
Does ITT offer 6G pipe welding testing?
Yes. ITT offers TSSA 6G pipe welding certification testing. Training and booth rental options are available if required.
Who is the Red Seal Practical Test for?
The Red Seal Practical Test is an assessment for experienced welders pursuing the Trade Qualifier pathway to obtain their Certificate of Qualification with a Red Seal endorsement. Applicants must demonstrate sufficient, verifiable trade experience equivalent to a minimum of 6,000 hours. The practical assessment includes six welding processes, all of which must be successfully completed before the applicant can proceed to the written certification examination.
Note: All required Welder Practical Exams must be completed and passed in a single session/test day to be considered valid.
Can I prepare for my welding test at ITT?
Yes. ITT offers training designed to help welders develop the skills required for certification testing. Welding booth rentals are also available to experienced welders for additional practice and preparation before your test.
Do I have to complete my welding training at ITT to take a test there?
No. You do not have to complete your welding training at ITT to take an eligible welding test at our facility. Experienced welders are welcome to register for certification testing with ITT.
How do I book a welding test?
Testing can be arranged by phone at (416) 750-1950 or in person. Contact ITT to discuss the certification test you require, confirm eligibility and requirements, and arrange a testing date.
What do I need to bring to my welding test?
Welders must bring and wear their own personal protective equipment (PPE), including steel-toe safety boots or shoes, welding helmet, welding gloves, safety glasses, and protective clothing. You must also bring your required welding tools, such as a chipping hammer, wire brush, and wire wheel grinder. Only grinders equipped with a wire wheel are permitted during CWB testing.
Welders must also present at least one valid government-issued photo ID, such as a driver’s licence, passport, Permanent Resident Card, or provincial identity card.
When will I receive my test results?
CWB test results are available two weeks from your test date and will be provided via email.
TSSA test results are available between one and three weeks after your test date, and will be provided via email.
What happens if I do not pass my welding test?
If you do not pass your welding test, contact ITT to discuss available training, practice, and retesting options.
